PREX Radio program - "PREXCIOUS" Moments
On October 8, 2005, with the initiative of Kuya Art Saroca and the support of the whole association of CAAPPS, with its Spiritual Directors Msgr. Rommel Kintanar, Fr. Nestor Soriano and Fr Prudencio "Boy" Elbao, the radio program entitled "PREXCIOUS" Moments was realized and aired every Saturday, 8:00PM - 9:00PM at DYRF, a catholic radio station in Cebu City which is managed by the SVD congregation. The said program discusses on air reflections of the Sundays Gospel by the PREX Priests, sometimes with Bishop Precioso Cantillas, SDB,DD and PREX members with experiences relevant to the Gospel. Ate Bing Saroca, anchors the program with Fr. Boy Elbao and Msgr. Rommel Kintanar. The radio program has been endorsed on air by His Eminence Ricardo Cardinal Vidal,DD to every Catholic and has now been gaining a good number of listeners not only in Cebu but in its neighboring dioceses and in other areas of Mindanao.
PREX Visayas Convention
On November 29-30,2004 CAAPPS has initiated a gathering of its PREX members in the Visayas where PREX is ongoing. The said gathering was attended by PREX members from Maasin, Southern Leyte who has the most number of participants, Archdiocese of Cebu and Diocese of Dumaguete. The occassion has rekindled the spirit of enthusiasm among its members to be more committed in the PREX mission and bonded the relationship of our "Ate and Kuya" as a community. Msgr. Marino Gatan and His Most Reverend Bishop Ted Bacani, DD were among those who were invited from Luzon to talk on the first Visayas convention. In the Visayas, His Most Reverend Precioso D. Cantillas, SDB,DD, Fr. Ramon Ramos and Msgr. Rommel Kintanar were among those who also gave the talks on the different topics. There were priests who gave their pastoral witnessing together with lay sharers.
The success of the First Visayas Convention paved the way for the Second Visayas Convention which took place on November 28-29, 2005. Our Most Reverend Bishops Precioso D. Cantillas, SDB, DD and Florentino F. Cinense, DD were among those who gave the talks for the Second Visayas Convention along with other priests. What made the occasion really inspiring was the presence of His Eminence Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, DD, who despite his fever celebrated the Holy Mass on the first day with the PREX family. Ate Beth Perez and Ate Mila Mendoza, from NAPPS also graced the occasion with their vibrant presence.
On December 1-2, 2006, the 3rd Visayas Convention was hosted by His Most Reverend Bishop D. Cantillas, SDB,DD in his Diocese (Maasin, Southern Leyte) together with the support of his priests and PREX members. The event was attended by more than 2,000 delegates. We can only attribute the success of the three events to our Holy Triune God, our Patron.
Birth of PREX Corinthians
Kuya Art and Ate Bing Saroca discussed the necessity of Corinthians for the young people as there were concerns raised about their "way of life" nowadays. CAAPPS supported the idea, thus the first PREX Corinthians in Cebu was realized in San Nicolas Parish, Cebu City, with Fr. Prudencio "Boy" Elbao's support. It was attended by the youth of San Nicolas Parish in Cebu. His Most Reverend Bishop Precioso D Cantillas, SDB, DD gave one of the topics.
From the humble beginning of Corinthians, it has spread out to the different parishes of Cebu and the Diocese of Maasin, Southern leyte, where His Most Reverend Bishop Precioso D. Cantillas SDB,DD realized it among the graduating college students of St. Joseph College, Maasin where he is the President. Fr. Marne and Fr. Amiel were the priests assigned to look after the seminars.
On the other hand, Fr. Roland Umatang, with the support of His Most Reverend Bishop John Du, DD, organized all the youth leaders in all the parishes of the Diocese of Dumaguete and started the second PREX Corinthians. It was attended by 200 participants from all the parishes of the Diocese of Dumaguete.
To date, Corinthians is embraced by the youth as a tool for effective renewal that befits their generation. To God be the glory!
PREX COOPERATIVE
In the year 2005, Kuya Art Saroca solicited the approval of CAAPPS to realize a cooperative. For quite sometime, the idea was put aside. On November, 2006, Fr. Boy Elbao and Ate Bing Saroca approached His Eminence Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, DD to seek his blessing to put up a PREX Cooperative. His Eminence Ricardo Cardinal Vidal,DD nodded his head and advised us that it is better than putting up a foundation as the latter would require a very big amount to start with.
Sometime in the month of March, 2007, Kuya Art Saroca discussed again with the body (CAAPPS) the need to organize a cooperative as an answer to the Archdiocesan thrust...."stewardship in the year of social concerns".... After some deliberations, he finally earned the support of the association to put up the PREX Cooperative with the support of the priests, Fr. Prudencio "Boy" Elbao, Fr Domeng Saladaga, Fr. Nestor Soriano, Msgr. Rommel Kintanar and His Most Reverend Bishop Precioso D. Cantillas SDB,DD and His Eminence Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, DD.
The PREX Cooperative is now registered and has a new set of officers to look after its operation. Fr. Domeng Saladaga has put in some efforts in contacting different government agencies that can help the community discover different livelihood projects. Some trainings have already started among the members. With God's help, the PREX cooperative may one day help transform the way of life of our Ate and Kuya, especially the less-privileged ones.
PREX PARISH MISSION
Sometime in the month of July 2006, CAAPPS invited Fr. Ramon Ramos, CP to conduct a one day recollection for the PREX community in the Archdiocese of Cebu. His assignment in Cebu by his congregation was considered by CAAPPS as truly providential.
In one of their conversations with Fr. Prudencio Elbao, Kuya Art and Ate Bing Saroca, Fr. Ramon Ramos proposed to launch a Parish mission where CAAPPS will visit every parish and realize an evangelization crusade by just deepening the Gospel text for Sunday by the PREX priests with the lay leaders to all parishioners with the coordination of the Parish Priest in every parish. The event will take place for one day with a Eucharistic celebration. The said activity was decided to be done every first Saturday of the month.
The PREX Parish Mission was beautifully started in San Nicolas Parish with the full support and presence of Fr. Prudencio "Boy" Elbao and Fr. Ramon Ramos. Because of popular request among the parishioners and CAAPPS, Fr. Ramon Ramos carried the mission at San Nicolas for three(3) consecutive first Saturdays. It has truly gained support among the PREX graduates and parishioners, but after the third (3rd) Visayas Prex Convention, news came to CAAPPS that Fr. Ramon Ramos will be transferred by his congregation in Luzon.
Since CAAPPS acknowledged the unique gift of Fr. Ramon Ramos in such ministry, it has ruled out to stop the said mission until the proper time will be given by God to continue the crusade. Indeed, there is an appointed time for everything.
